p>About a year after receiving our first taste of the Myo, Thalmic Labs has announced that it's reaching out to the masses by using Amazon this quarter. Similar to its pre-order available on the company's website the muscle-sensing, armband for controlling gestures will retail for $199. But before that, Thalmic Labs has already sold the pre-orders of 50,000 (with about half of them shipped to buyers so far) and that's an excellent endorsement to the use cases that were shown off by Thalmic Labs and its several partners.

p>For those who aren't familiar with the Myo It is made up of eight muscle-sensing modules that you attach to the widest part of your forearm, which then lets the device detect your hand gestures. These gestures include stretching your hands, squeezing or waving your hands left and right, turning your forearm, or a quick pinch with another finger (which can be used to activate or pause your Myo). On top of that you can also combine accelerometer, gyroscope and a magnetometer to track your arm's movement.

p>The Myo has no power button. It wakes up immediately you pick it up and then automatically goes to sleep if it is left alone. A single charge can last between 10 and 14 hours if you use it continuously, which is quite impressive.

p>Bluetooth LE is used to communicate with the Myo Connect app. The app relays motion information back to the program or device that you control. Thalmic Labs demo room featured the Myo to control video playback as well as volume and race the sun, an addictive flight-based obstacle avoidance, game and an Orbotix Ollie rolling robotic robot. Except for the connectivity issue with the Ollie and the arduous nature of the game, the majority of these scenarios were quite easy for us. https://canvas.instructure.com/eportfolios/1444804/Home/Minecraft_Mod_1191024_Unlocked </p>

p>We've seen Myo demos that include PowerPoint?, iTunes and Call Of Duty. Users will be able download app "connectors" from the Myo Market to try out the various use cases and for controlling Spotify, Netflix, Sonos and other popular games such as Minecraft and Saints Row IV.

p>Thalmic Labs also had some impressive displays just prior to CES. The company's Myo integration was introduced in November by TedCas?. This allows surgeons to alter images from medical devices without touching screens. In the next month, Haute Technique shared its story on how it let Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren to use the armband to control the stage lights at his shows. With major companies betting on gesture control this year, it'll be interesting to see if people behind the gesture cameras can come up with something as impressive.
