p>The Tate Gallery is going to exhibit some of its most famous artworks in 3D form, inside the virtual world of the computer game Minecraft. Is this a good method for art to be appreciated? https://hackmd.io/@dogside5/HkHUtrebi

p>Ever fancied stepping inside a painting, and then taking a bit of an exploration inside it?

/p>

p>The Tate invites visitors to take a stroll around its art and have a good rummage.

/p>

p>There will be no security guards watching.

/p>

p>It has teamed up with the makers of Minecraft the online game on computers where millions of players meticulously build fantasy worlds block by block to create 3D versions of two of its works in a brand-new virtual gallery.

/p>

p>Andre Derain's 1906 painting The Pool of London, and Christopher Nevinson's painting of New York, Soul of the Soulless City (1920), are the first pair to receive this digital, 3D makeover.

/p>

p>Jane Burton, Tate Media's Creative Director, explains that visitors will see a white cube that is the Tate Gallery.

/p>

p>"You walk in with the painting in your hands.

/p>

p>"What you can do is walk towards the painting and then, literally then you leap into it, and that's where your adventure begins."

/p>

p>Enter the art

/p>

p>Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the painting's world.

/p>

p>To see Nevinson's cityscape from the train, take it. Stop for a bite to eat with builders as they take a break from building skyscrapers.

/p>

p>Visitors should be aware of pirates in the Thames when visiting Derain's picture and experiment with mixing explosive paint pigments.

/p>

p>"You explore activities and challenges that are related to the themes of the artwork.

/p>

p>Jane Burton, whose children introduced her to the potential and power of Minecraft Jane Burton, who is the creator of Minecraft, says, "It's art history adventure,"

/p>

p>Adam Clarke, a well-known Minecraft creator, originally suggested that Minecraft exhibits should be created.

/p>

p>He suggested the idea for Tate's IK Prize. This prize is given to an idea that uses digital technology to encourage people in the arts.

/p>

p>When the concept finally came to fruition, Tate enlisted the skills of other famous Minecraft builders like Dragnoz, Kupo, Featherblade and Tewkesape to create the worlds that were influenced by the famous photos.

/p>

p>However, not everyone is convinced.

/p>

p>Perspective

/p>

p>These Minecraft creations will provide younger audiences a better understanding of art to enable them to see original works in galleries. Rachel Campbell-Johnston, Times art critic, says it's like "seeing an old friend".

/p>

p>The feeling of being recognized, "like seeing a celebrity" is a powerful tool to help appreciate art and to inspire audiences.

/p>

p>She continues, "But ironically the Minecraft works themselves offer an even flatter experience."

/p>

p>"It is more of an entertainment than a creative connection to the painting. [Minecrafts] 3D mapping replaces the illusionistic surface of real painting by doing the work for me."

/p>

p>Digital opening

/p>

p>The two works of Derain and Nevinson will be downloadable from Monday.

/p>

p>Players pay a fee to join the Minecraft community, but the downloadable maps of the Tate's pictures are free.

/p>

p>Six more 3D masterpieces are on the way. https://txt.fyi/-/22257/8e9f6c64/ Many will be watching closely to see how many people line up for Tate's Minecraft exhibition on Monday. https://controlc.com/93396858
