p>Craftbukkit is a third-party Minecraft mod which allows you to utilize Minecraft plugins. The mod is available for download at Bukkit.org. It's an JAR file that runs the Minecraft server JAR.

p>After downloading the latest version of Craftbukkit change the name of the downloaded file to craftbukkit.jar. Download the recommended build or development build. Recommended builds are more stable but they are often previous versions of Minecraft that users with updated clients are unable to connect to. Unless the recommended build is also updated to the most recent version of Minecraft you'll want to run the development build.

p>Copy the craftbukkit.jar file to the same directory that contains your minecraft_server.jar. This article assumes you already have a running Minecraft server, if not, please refer to my article on setting up your very own Minecraft server.

p>Start your Minecraft server the same way you normally would however, replace minecraft_server.jar with craftbukkit.jar. Craftbukkit is a program that requires more memory, could require you to increase the RAM available to your server. Craftbukkit will start itself and create a configuration file called bukkit.yml. The file isn't required to be modified and is very basic.

p>The next step is installing plugins. https://minecraft-server-list.xyz/ Plugins are available on the Bukkit.org site under plugins.bukkit.org. You can search for plugins using keywords or browse them by category. Plugins which haven't been updated recently likely won't work with the latest version of Craftbukkit/Minecraft. You can download the plugin by visiting a page.

p>Installing and downloading a plug-in is fairly easy. Craftbukkit will automatically generate an JAR file. This change will only take effect after the server has been restarted. The plugin will also generate a folder with the same name as the JAR file, which contains configuration files and other assets needed to use the plugin.

p>If your download is a zip or a rar file you must unzip/unrar this file with a program that can handle these extensions. Transfer these files to your plugin folder and ensure that the JAR file is located in the root of the plugins folder. Restart your server and the new plugin will be activated.
