<p>With the backing of billions from Microsoft, Minecraft's momentum is not slowing. The game is now compatible with VR and the ability to customize its world by adding Add-Ons. The movie has a release date (although it is in 2019) and in the near future, it's set to have its own official novel. Mojang has confirmed that the upcoming book is titled Minecraft: The Island, is being written by none other than Max Brooks, the scribe behind the zombie novel World War Z.

<p>"Think cuboid Robinson Crusoe, but madder she is a hero who is stranded in an unfamiliar land with a new set of rules, struggling to survive against overwhelming odds," says Mojang's Marsh Davies. "I have a look at the early draft and it's absolutely incredible as we had hoped it would be."

<p>Although it is not yet known when the book will be released or how it will tie in with the film, it is clear that it will be the first of many. Publishing house Del Rey -- the science fiction offshoot of Penguin Random House -- is in charge of everything, and the company has already stated that it's "fortunate to have someone with Max's incredible talent and passion on board for the launch of the series."

<p>Parents will likely be accountable for more expenses, but some will be grateful that Minecraft is expanding its reach into education.
