Sony has launched an open beta program for PS5 software in order to test what's supposedly an "major upgrade" later in the year. Perhaps we can expand the SSD? In the coming weeks, Sony will release more details about the forthcoming features.

p>Signups are limited to PS5 owners who reside in the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany and France and you have to be over 18 to be eligible to participate. You will receive an email with instructions on how to download the beta firmware if you're chosen.

p>Microsoft has been running the Xbox Insider Program since years. Even Sony has used beta testers to test patches on the PS4. But this is a bit more. Sony might need all the testers it can gather: PS5 is in its early stages, and it can still be difficult to find stocks.

This could be because Disney wants to maintain that watercooler atmosphere and encourage discussion about its latest shows before they launch on the weekend.
